Earth Day is here—woohoo! 🌍🎉 This month, there are plenty of exciting events to celebrate our planet. Discover how you, along with your friends and family, can get involved and join the fun! 🌿
Check out these events in Southern Maine
April 5th, 9am to 4pm
The Green Home + Energy Show | South Portland, Maine

The Green Home + Energy Show is the place to find resources for every step of your sustainable home journey—from building to buying to renovating. Come for the expert-led workshops, networking with contractors and food trucks; stay for the vibrant community of eco-minded homeowners and professionals. Connect with a variety of home and energy exhibitors all in one place, shop from Maine makers, and test-drive an electric vehicle at the EV Expo. Meet expert landscape designers and native plant specialists at the Sustainable Landscape Expo. Ticket proceeds benefit The Ecology School, a nonprofit school where sustainability means living, learning, working & playing in ways that are regenerative.
Sustainability Tip!
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Cut down on waste by buying only what you need, reusing items where possible, and recycling properly. It's one of the simplest yet most impactful things you can do.
April 12th, 10am to 2pm:
Earth Day Celebration and Egg Scramble | The City of Portland
First, enjoy egg hunting, photos with Bubba the Bunny, face painting, games, and more! The City and local environmental organizations are partnering to host a festival of fun, including e-bike demos, a free clothing swap, outdoor activities, games, painting, food trucks, and more. We encourage you to bring clothes to exchange/donate at the clothing swap.

Sustainability Tip!
Go Paperless
Opt for digital bills, notes, and receipts. This reduces paper waste and cuts down on deforestation, a major environmental concern.
April 19th, 10am to 2pm:
Green ME UP | Girl Scouts of Maine

Be inspired to take action at Green ME Up and celebrate Earth Day with a FREE, hands-on, fun-filled day for the whole family, learning how you can help keep Maine green today and in the future!
Join them for interactive and earth-friendly activities with organizations including WormMainea, ecomaine, Sappi, Project Learning Tree, and more! Climb the rock wall, learn about Leave No Trace principles, see The Pinkies, a trio of sculptures created from reclaimed fishing gear, and discover how your actions can make the world a better place!
Sustainability Tip!
Sustainable Eating
Reduce your consumption of animal products, especially beef, and try incorporating more plant-based meals into your diet. Buying locally grown food also helps reduce transportation emissions.
April 19th, 10am to 12pm:
Beach Clean Up | Maine Conservation Alliance

They're partnering with Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation—one of New England's leading marine debris and conservation organizations—to celebrate Earth Day with a beach cleanup at Old Orchard Beach!
Sustainability Tip!
Switch to Renewable Energy
Consider green energy plans from your utility provider or install solar panels if you can. This helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lowers your carbon footprint.
April 22nd, 3pm to 7pm:
Earth Day Fair | Westbrook

Join them for the Earth Day 2025 Fair at Westbrook Commons. The event starts at 3:00 PM with a performance by the Maine Youth Circus followed by tables with information, demonstration, giveaways and games! They'll end the event with a movie screening and discussion. Come down, have fun and learn about the natural resources around you.
Sustainability Tip!
Support Eco-Friendly Brands
Buy from companies that prioritize sustainable practices, whether it's through using recycled materials, supporting fair trade, or reducing environmental harm in their manufacturing processes.
April 24th, starts at 2pm:
Fashion show | Aveda Institute
Aveda Institute "Trashion" Show to benefit NRCM's work to protect Maine's environment. Students and staff will create incredible fashions made from recycled materials. Raffle prizes will be drawn throughout the show. Admission is $5, and raffle tickets will be available for sale at the door. All funds raised will support NRCM's work to protect the nature of Maine.
Sustainability Tip!
Sustainable Transportation
Walk, bike, or use public transport more often. If you must drive, carpool or consider investing in a fuel-efficient or electric vehicle to minimize your emissions.
April 26th, 10am to 2pm:
Resource Fair | City of South Portland

Join them for their very first Earth Day Fair to celebrate all things nature, get resources from sustainable organizations, meet like-minded people in your community, and clean up the city! This fair is a partnership between the City of South Portland, the South Portland Land Trust, and Dirigo Science Connection.
Sustainability Tip!
Plant a Tree
Trees absorb carbon dioxide and provide oxygen. Planting trees helps combat climate change and restore natural habitats. Even participating in a local tree-planting event can make a difference.
April 8th to April 26th:

Celebrate Earth Day With Sierra Club Maine!
They have several events planned in April. We hope you'll join us!
Sustainability Tip!
Minimize Single-Use Plastics
Choose reusable alternatives to plastic bags, bottles, and containers. This can significantly reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills and oceans.
April 18th to April 26th:

At Maine Audubon, we feel like every day is Earth Day! But of course, we still do honor the official day, which falls on April 22 this year. We’ve got a week packed full of special events designed to have fun while doing our best for the planet. Please join us!
